Karen Sue Adkison

05/10/2026

Ms. Karen Sue Adkison, age 76 of Limestone, passed away at the home of her daughter on Sunday, May 10th, 2026.

She was born on November 12, 1949, in Matewan, WV to the late Rev. John C. and Pearlie McClendon.

Karen was a talented musician/singer and used her God given talents to minister to others. She often volunteered at local nursing homes, vacation Bible schools, women's conferences, prison ministries, and was the music director at several local churches. She was an effective and anointed worship leader.

Karen's passion was helping others above all else, and she used every opportunity available to lead others to Christ. She truly loved all of her many friends and family, and never tired of supporting and encouraging others. She placed Jesus Christ at the center of her life and that was evident to all who knew her. Karen's primary goal in life was to advance the kingdom of Jesus Christ and was a faithful steward while doing so.

Karen worked at Aerojet Ordinance in Jonesborough, Tennessee as an executive assistant to multiple CEOs. She was beloved by her coworkers, and remained a steadfast example of the love of Christ to everyone she interacted with.

She was a faithful steward of all God entrusted to her. She loved deeply, was generous to anyone in need and she gave of her resources freely. She loved her family fiercely. Her children, grandchildren and great grandson were her pride and joy and they always knew they were loved by her. She was simply amazing but humble in spirit. She knew and believed that God was her source.

Survivors include her daughter, Shara Gilreath (Tracy); son, Michael Glenn Adkison; grandchildren, Cierra Sloop (Matthew) and Hannah Gilreath; great grandson, Kellin Sloop.

Funeral services will be held at Johnson City Church of God, 1908 Indian Ridge Rd, on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at 3 pm. The family will receive friends from 1pm to 3pm prior to the service.

Graveside services will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery.
