Mr. John Robert King, age 76, of Jonesborough, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at his home.
He was born in Onslow County, North Carolina, on May 17, 1949, to the late Irven and Joan Butcher King. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Richard King and sister, Maureen King.
John proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, a role he carried with honor and pride throughout his life. A true patriot, he deeply loved his country, cherished his fellow veterans, and held a special respect for the red, white, and blue.
He was a hardworking man who devoted many years to his career as a mechanic, worked in the shipyards of Virginia Beach, and also served his community as a police officer. John was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and unwavering sense of duty.
Outside of work, John found joy in the simple things he loved most. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, treasured his dogs, and loved traveling, especially long rides and road trips that allowed him to see the country he cared for so deeply.
John will be remembered for his strength, patriotism, adventurous spirit, and the love he shared with family, friends, and fellow veterans. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of five years, Judy King “baby”; sisters, Anne Crain (Bob) of Little River, South Carolina, Joanne Hubbard (Ralph) of Clover, South Carolina, Marge Picarsic (Tom) of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Trish Bowen (Jim) of Indian trail, North Carolina; brothers, Gary King (Nora) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Bill King (Mary) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; step-grandson, Sean Cearley; brothers-in-law, Gary Weaver and Tommy Weaver; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Graveside Service with military honors at Mountain Home National Cemetery will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Anyone who plans to attend the graveside is asked to meet at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home by 12:15 PM, to go in procession to the cemetery.
