Thomas Frederick Pardue “Poppy Tom” age 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Tom was born in Knoxville, TN to Martha and Paul Pardue on December 10, 1945. He graduated from Holston High in 1963. After graduating from East Tennessee State University, he went to work at Magnavox in Greenville. He then decided to pursue his passion in photography and started Pardue Photographics. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Joyce Montgomery Pardue, and together they shared nearly 60 years of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was built on a deep and lasting partnership, and together they raised two daughters.
Tom proudly volunteered for the United States Marine Corps on June 13, 1967, serving throughout the Vietnam War until February 24, 1971. During his service, he excelled in his training, finishing first in his electronics school class before specializing in photography. He served with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Da Nang, South Vietnam, where he photographed reconnaissance missions over Vietnam, including enemy territory. His service also took him to Kansas and Iwakuni, Japan. Through his dedication and exceptional performance, he earned several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifle Badge and two Meritorious Masts. He rose through the ranks to Staff Sergeant (E-6), an achievement that reflected his skill, leadership, and commitment to the Corps.
He was a faithful member of Jonesborough United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served on numerous boards. Through his photography business, Pardue Photographics, Tom captured countless weddings and special moments for families throughout the community. He also photographed many events and happenings around the town of Jonesborough, helping preserve the history, traditions, and memories of the place he called home. His love for photography allowed him to be a part of so many meaningful moments in the lives of others and to leave a lasting mark on the community he loved. In addition to his work and church service, he served on the Jonesborough Senior Center Advisory Board for 10 years, was a long-time member of the Jonesborough Civitan Club, an active member of the Marine Corps League and Military Order of the Devil Dogs and served on the Jonesborough Board of Mayor and Alderman for two terms.
He will be remembered for his deep love for God and the way he lived out his faith each day. His love for the Lord was evident not only in his service to the church, but also in the way he loved his family, welcomed others, and served in his community. Through his kindness, generosity, and willingness to serve, Tom was a living example of his faith. He carried his love for God into every part of his life, touching the lives of those around him through his actions, his words, and the love he so freely gave. Leah and I are so sorry to hear of Uncle Tom's passing. He was such an amazing uncle, always smiling and positive. Throughout my life I cannot remember him saying an unkind word about anyone, and he was always ready to share his faith. He will be missed, but I know he is happy being with Aunt Joyce and all of the others who have gone before him.
