Mr. Barton “Bart” E. South, age 66, of Jonesborough, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
He was born on March 18, 1960, in Johnson City, Tennessee to Mr. Robert South and Mrs. Bonnie Arrowood South.
Bart is preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa “Terry” South; and his mother and father-in-law, Lowell and Wilma Ellis.
He attended David Crockett High School and was a member of Bethel Church of Christ.
Bart found joy in the simple things in life, he loved being outdoors, working with his hands, and spending time with the people he loved. He enjoyed gardening and working on cars, but the hobbies he enjoyed the most were camping and fishing.
Above all, Bart had a great heart and loved his family deeply. Nothing brought him greater joy than being a Papaw. He treasured his granddaughter, Alyanna, cherishing every moment spent with her, and he was especially looking forward to getting to meet his new grandchild this year.
In addition to his parents, Robert and Bonnie, Bart is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Racheal and Daniel Dugger; granddaughter, Alyanna Dugger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bryan and Twyla South and Barry and Christy South; sister, Beverly Proudlove; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, prior to the service.
