Mrs. Eleanor “Lorraine” Langyher, a beautiful 92-year-old from Gray, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at Ivy Hall Nursing Home on Sunday, July 19, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family.
Born on April 28, 1934, in Washington, DC, to the late John (“Mike”) Benjamin and Eleanor Catherine (Raymond) Ballenger. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie; son, Kenny Langyher; and brother, Jack Ballenger.
Lorraine had a life filled with grace, generosity, and an unwavering joy for each day. A fourth-generation Washingtonian, she grew up in the District of Columbia and cherished her Catholic faith. Lorraine was known for her kindness, hospitality, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and met her soulmate, Charlie, when they were just teenagers. Together, they built a beautiful sixty-seven-year marriage until Charlie’s passing in 2020.
Eleanor’s family and friends were her world. She was always there for her kids, cheering them on and showing them how much she loved them. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome, and she loved having family and friends over anytime. She was a true lady, and she carried herself with grace while living life to the fullest. Even in her eighties, she was still full of energy and loved trying new things. She loved to travel, dance, cherish new experiences, and make friends wherever she went. She was a great wife, mom, sister, aunt, worker, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a true friend to many.
Lorraine loved to shop, and she did it almost every day. She was really good with her hands and loved to crochet beautiful things for her loved ones as well as children’s charities. She was an avid bowler, a huge doll collector, and a member of many clubs throughout her life. She always looked forward to each day, living life to the fullest and making every moment count.
Lorraine’s family includes her son, Larry Langyher (Patricia); daughters, Laurie Yates (Ed) and Colleen Langyher; grandchildren, Brian (Carlie) Wiedmeier, Keith (Crystal) Delahanty, Stephen (Whitney) Langyher, Kathleen Langyher, and Elizabeth Langyher; Melissa Pascal (Ben), Chrissy Howland (Jay Metcalf) great-grandchildren, Saylor, Isla, Jaiden, Keira, Liam, Elaine, Ophelia, Ezra; Clover, Chloe, Violet, brother, Phillip Ballenger; and many nieces and nephews too many to count.
Lorraine will be buried with her loving husband at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland. We’ll let you know when the arrangements are made.
