Mr. Jakob Staub, age 70, Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, following a period of declining health.
He was born on April 28, 1956, in Chur, Switzerland to Katharina Staub-Hochholddinger and Jakob Staub-Hochholdinger.
Jakob attended school in Jenins and Maienfeld, Switzerland. Upon graduating, he became a master electrician. He then joined the Swiss Army and later as border patrol for the Swiss Italian borders. Jakob went on to become an electrical engineer employed by Balzers AG. As a result of his accomplishments the company offered him a position in the United States. Jakob accepted the challenge and began a new life in America despite not speaking English.
In 2002 Jakob married the love of his life, Brenda. Together they shared many life experiences living in Arosa Switzerland, Clearwater Florida, Manchester New Hampshire and most recently in Chuckey Tennessee where they shared their love for the mountains and nature. After living and working in the United States for 35 years, Jakob proudly became a United States citizen in 2025.
Jakob will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, creativity, wit, and inquisitive nature. He had a special ability to make people feel comfortable, welcome, and engaged. He was loving, sensitive, caring, and deeply devoted to his family and friends. Jakob’s warmth, humor, friendship, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Jakob was predeceased by his parents, Katharina Staub-Hochholddinger, his father Jakob Staub-Hochholddinger.
He is survived by his loving wife Brenda, sister Ursina Zweifel and brother Andreas Staub.
