William Sharpe “Bill” Boyce was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Rosalyn Ward Boyce; his father, Joseph; his mother, Ann; his brother, Joseph Jr.; and his sister, Ann Marie Boyce.
After Rosalyn’s passing, Bill met and married Joyce Ann Haga in 2002, and they remained married until his passing.
Bill is survived by his three stepchildren: Donald Youngren; Nanette Youngren Cortez and her son, Toby Cortez; and Rebecca Youngren Ginther and her daughters, Katie Hogan and Hilary Ginther. He is also survived by Donald’s wife, Jennifer, and their daughters, Erin Youngren and Whitney Youngren Moore, as well as Whitney’s daughters, Sonny and Sofia.
Bill enlisted in the Army in 1947 and, after his discharge, attended Villanova University. He was then employed by Railway Express Agency and was promoted to agent in charge of the Crisfield, Maryland office. It was in Crisfield that he met Rosalyn and her three children, and they were later married. The family was subsequently transferred to Bristol, Virginia, where Bill became agent in charge of the Bristol REA office. He worked for the railroad until his retirement. After retiring, Bill enrolled at East Tennessee State University, where he earned his long-postponed degree.
Bill was a devoted Catholic and longtime parishioner of Saint Anne Catholic Church, where he served as a member and treasurer of the Knights of Columbus. At the time of his passing, he had been an active and faithful member for over 70 years. He was a wonderful husband, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bill had an infectious sense of humor and was affectionately known to his entire family as “Granddaddy” or simply “Great!"
He loved old movies, YouTube, and anything to do with construction, computers, history, and World War II.
Bill passed peacefully after living five months at Oakmont at Gordon Park Assisted Living in Bristol, where he had become the life of the party. If you knew Bill, you would have expected nothing less.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at Saint Anne Catholic church on a date TBA.
Bill was a wonderful man and a very dear friend. He was always affirming of the gifts of others and encouraging of the talents of others. His wit, his honesty and love will be greatly missed.

Whitney Youngren Moore
My childhood would not be filled with so many great memories if not due to this man. I loved every Friday I got when they watched me. I remember the birds sang louder there, the gardens grew great, the swing swung the best, the hill you rolled down was perfect. Pet chicken named Peeper, and a cat I was allergic too but loved named Mew Mew. Silky things others may not get, like writing on the carpet, singing into the fan, and a make believe world where a crab could be caught in a blanket and turned into a baby over 1,000 times. My favorite memory was Park Man. The park he took me too that had a man with a red hat as a swing and a yellow horse as a ladder. When I passed by it with him in the car, the swing called Park Man said “hello Whitney”. Funny thing was it sounded just like him.
