Doris Maureen Goodwin

01/09/2026

Doris Maureen Goodwin passed away on January 9th, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center, she was surrounded by loved ones and close friends.

Doris was born November 24, 1942, in San Deigo, California to her late parents, (mother) Laura A. Coons and (father) Dakin Ira Coons. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Goodwin and brother, John P. Coons.

Survivors include her sister, Velma R. Crestman; 3 step-children, Mark A. Goodwin (wife, Lisa Goodwin), Denise M. Crain, and Michael Goodwin; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Doris was employed by the San Diego police department as an officer of the law in her early years before starting new employment at San Diego Gas and Electric Co where she met her husband Ed. She and Ed both worked there until their retirement. Doris loved adventure and traveling; along with Ed they decided to take it to the road and landed a job driving a hauler for NASCAR and working for several famous NASCAR drivers. Her love for the mountains is where they put down roots in Tennessee and the adventures continued in their new RV. Her beloved dog Bootsie was always riding copilot with Doris on the various camping trips while exploring in the United States. She loved the outdoors and vast amount of beautiful scenery she got to see.

Doris was also a steadfast member of the Church of Christ in Jonesborough, Tennessee where she nurtured her faith and found comfort in church, family, and an unwavering Christian life. Those who new Doris would find her the epitome of independence, selflessness, sharp mindedness, and her words of wisdom were comforting to all! Her legacy not only lives in the lives of her family but the countless hearts that she touched in so many ways with the people she loved with her generosity and compassion.

As we say farewell to Doris Maureen Goodwin (aka RENEE) we are reminded of the beautiful life well-lived that will resonate through the lives of family, companions, and wonderful friends she loved so much!

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Minister Jerry A. Sayre officiating.
