Mrs. Shirley Joy Rowin Meade, age 90, departed this mortal world on January 9, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Shirley was born nineth of eleven children to the late Jim & Alma Rowin, in Hennessey, Oklahoma on May 20, 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Meade, two sons, Kenny Meade and Kevin Meade, six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Daniel Meade, Farmville, VA; brother, Bob Rowin, Casa Grande, Arizona; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Jonesborough.

Mrs. Meade taught special education in Pound, Wise and Clinch County, Virginia. She led and volunteered for the Special Olympics for 25 years. She was Kenneth’s full-time caregiver while he battled Parkinson’s with dementia. She lived in Jonesborough and then Johnson City, Tennessee in her late life.

There will be a family burial at a later date.
