Rex S. Garrison

01/06/2026

Mr. Rex S. Garrison, age 58, of Blountville, met his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with ALS. Rex knew that being a child of God is the most important accomplishment he made on earth. He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church. He made every effort to follow the two greatest commandments which are “love your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind; and love your neighbor.” As he walked his final journey battling ALS, he realized the most important thing you can do there on earth is Galatians 5:25 “if you are of the Spirit, you will be in step with the Spirit.” He knew he was a sinner, but by the grace of God he was forgiven and he has finished his race. His goal was to hear those words, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Marian Garrison. In addition, he was preceded in death by his late wife, Becky L. Garrison, and a child who died before birth. He was also preceded in death by brother Russell “Rusty” Garrison. He leaves behind his loving wife, Jennifer Garrison and his two precious daughters Alexa Hildner (Evan) and Ava Garrison, as well as Hayley Miller (Nick) and Kelsey McElravy (Anthony Horton), and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ella Kate, Amelia, and Theodore Miller, and Credence Horton. He also leaves behind his sister Cindy Raihl (John), sister Ginny Garrison, and sister-in-law Tricia Garrison. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud.

The family wants to thank everyone for their prayers and the love and support of Boones Creek Christian Church. In addition, the family would like to thank all the health and support staff during his illness, which includes Dr. Ronald Blackmore, Dr. Nathanial Whaley, all of the hospice nurses and staff with Ballad Hospice, and all those who worked with him at the ALS clinic.

Celebration of life services will be conducted 4:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Boones Creek Christian Church with Minister Ben Cole and Mr. Ben Holland officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Providence Academy, 2788 Carroll Creek Rd. Johnson City, TN 37615, for a Harkness Table to be donated in memory of Rex, or donations to Rex and Jennifer’s foundation “Keep Moving”, 133 Forest Lane South, Blountville, TN 37617.

My heartfelt sympathy goes to you, Jennifer, and the girls. Rex was one of the most Christlike men I've ever known. He was my son's college roommate and even back then you could tell that he was a very special young man. You are in my prayers and thoughts.

Rest easy, my friend. You, me, Gus and Deron sure had some great times in Boswell growing up. From snow days playing Monoply to endless hours of whiffle ball. Wouldn’t trade those times for anything. You hauled me home from baseball and basketball practices many times before I had my license in your brown Mustang and made me listen to your Beach Boys… wasn’t my favorite music, but looking back it makes me smile. You’ll be missed my man!

A great Christian man! As Rex endured this awful disease, he fought with bravery and resilience as he continued to work and raise awareness for ALS. Yet, as he lost his abilities, he still had that great smile, sense of humor and love for the Lord and his family. It was my privilege and a blessing to get to know Rex and Jennifer during their trial. His mind will be in overload calculating figures while trying to appraise the golden streets of heaven.
