William Roy “Billy” Greene passed from this life to meet his Lord Jesus Christ on January 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Billy was born October 19, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland, moved to Glen Ayre, North Carolina as a child and spent the bulk of his adult life living in the community of Harmony located in Jonesborough, TN.
Billy was a beloved husband, father, and “Pop-Pop” to 6 grandchildren who adored him. He also was a faithful son to his parents Bill and Betty, a brother to 5 siblings, and uncle to a slew of nephews and nieces. He was a true friend and favorite to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Billy was a loving follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Fountain of Life Bible Church in Johnson City, TN. Billy worked as a mechanic for Air Products for 38 years, where he developed many friendships with his co-workers whom he loved. He was a “jack of all trades” that used his abilities to work on cars for people, help build tree houses for his grandkids, and fix up the “little house” in North Carolina. He enjoyed fixing up his 1969 Camaro he named “Black Betty” and taking trips with his family. He was an incredibly present and proud Pop-Pop, spending all the time he could picking up his grandkids, going to their games, shooting pool with them and making them feel special. He exemplified a loving Christian servant heart in every relationship he had.
Billy was preceded in death by his father, William Lee “Bill” Greene and is survived by his wife Amelia Dale Greene whom he shared 42 years of marriage with; daughter, Kim Hyder and her husband Josh; son, Cody Greene and his wife Amber; grandchildren, John Henry Hyder, Wyatt Hyder, Elijah Greene, Azariah Greene, Asher Greene and Anna Jayne Greene; mother, Betty Greene; siblings, Linda McKinney (husband Roman), Sue Burnett, Lana Whitehead (husband Mike), Rodney Greene (wife Rita), and Tammy Houser (husband Tom).
The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Bradley Beeler along with the incredible oncologists and nurses at Ballad Health Cancer Center and Johnson City Medical Center, and especially two nurses that he became close with during his treatments, Jona and Aubrey, whom he affectionately referred to as his “girls”. They would also like to extend thanks to their neighbors, friends, and family who have prayed, sent encouragement, served and loved them so well during the time of Billy’s fight with leukemia.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 6pm at Mount Zion Baptist Church located at 284 Mount Zion Church Rd. Jonesborough, TN 37659. Billy’s son, Pastor Cody Greene, will officiate the service and his daughter Kim will give a eulogy.
Pallbearers will be Josh Hyder, Rodney Greene, Doug Arrowood, Brian Arrowood, Jerry Burleson, Justin Gillenwater and Tim Jackson. His grandsons (John Henry, Wyatt, Elijah, Azariah and Asher) will also serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in his name to charities that were close to his heart: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Wounded Warrior Project.

Praying for all of you, letting go of loved ones is so hard. We pray the Lord give you strength.
It is hard to imagine a world without Billy. We shed some tears privately together when he retired after being coworkers since the middle 80’s. Now though tears are present I look forward to that day I see him and we walk on GOLDEN streets together with so many of his friends and his awesome beloved family
So many great memories I hold of this wonderful man.
God Bless the family. I know you will hold your sacred memories of him dearly in your hearts. And I will as well

Billy was like my 2nd Dad, he was the best and his family is precious. We shared many laughs and I take comfort in knowing he is already healed. I will see him again! Praying hard for his family and friends.

I am so sad for y'all! I know what a close family you are and I'm sorry I lost contact. I had no idea Billy was going through that. Praise the Lord! He is healed! What a true testament of faith and courage! He certainly WAS a true friend and favorite. I wish you the comfort only known to those who belong to the Lord. I love you all.

This is a great lost to all of us who knew him. We meet in 1985 when Billy came to work for Air Products, and we became friend right off. I spent more time with this man than my own family and it was time well spent.
We had some great times together over years. We had fun when we could and laugh at ourselves often.
He was a man of perfection in his job, and I would just hand him what he needed and stand back and watch him do his magic. We talk a lot over the years, and his family was always often spoke of. He was proud of Dale and his children and grandchildren. If we wonder how good of a man he was, I look at his children and they both turn out great. He loved them unconditionally and was always there to help them in any way that he could. I will miss him, he was like a brother to me, and I spend more time with him than I did my own brother.
Dale, Kim, and Cody I’ll be praying for you in the coming days. I know you will be lost without him. We will see him again. May God put his arms around you and shed His Grace on you all. Love Justin

Billy was one of my favorite people when I was growing up and one of the nicest men I have ever known. So hard to understand, but he is with our Precious Savior and we will see him again!
