Robert Mahoney May II, age eighty, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 15, 2025.

He was born on March 27,1945 in Greene County, the son of the late Robert and Caroline May. He graduated from Virginia Tech with an Electrical Engineering degree and his MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Robert retired from teaching after 30 years at East Tennessee State University’s Department of Engineering Technology.


Robert was active in amateur radio since the age of sixteen and was recently awarded lifetime membership from the American Radio Relay League. He belonged to the Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society. Robert will be remembered for his kindness and love for family and friends, fishing, trains, model railroading and amateur radio (K4SE).


Robert is survived by his wife Carol, stepson Bryan Kagarise (Kara), grandson Archer, brother Mike May (Kathy), nephew Benjamin May (Kristina), niece Rebekah Brasure (Colton), four grandnieces and one grandnephew, and cousins Tom Bundy (Sherry) and Caroline Bundy (Rennie).


Funeral services will be on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home in Jonesborough, TN; pastors Joel Cook and Buford Hankins officiating. Visitation is 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the service. Private graveside services will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
