Mrs. Alice Peters Horton, age 87, of Fairview, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Alice was born on May 22, 1937, to the late Elmer and Laura Osborne Peters, in Blackwater, Virginia.

In 1960, Alice married the love of her life, Paul W. Horton, and together they built a beautiful home. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing made Alice happier than to be surrounded by her family, especially for Sunday lunch at Mamaw's. She loved gardening, canning, cooking, and fed anyone who entered her home. Alice was employed at the Kingsport Press and by the Scott County School System. She had a true servant's heart and showed the love of Jesus to all those who were blessed to have known her. Alice was a member of Zion Baptist Church and during her youth attended Big Door Primitive Baptist Church where she was saved at the age of 13.

In addition to her mother and father, Alice is preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Peters; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Salling.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Paul Horton; children, Kimberly Wallen (Jeff), Myra Judd (Marty), and Allyn Horton (Kristi); grandchildren, Ashley Howard (Josh), Sara Mowell (Josh), Dalton Horton (Kimberly), Amanda Carlson (James), Emily Isbel (Jeramy), and Cory Judd (Samantha); great-grandchildren, Jacob Weston Howard, Everly Alice Mowell, Nora Celeste Horton, Andrew Bennett Carlson, Ally Clare Carlson, Mason Clyde David Mowell, and Collin Brooks Isbel, and JC, Aubree and Parker Williams; sisters-in-law, Jerrilyne Horton and Helen Horton; many special extended family, Lisa Salling, John and Brenda Gilbert and family, Martha Kelley and family, Cathy and Beth Anne Chase, Fresca and Roel and family.

Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, April 27, 2025, at First Baptist Church Gate City (307 E Jackson Street, Gate City, VA, 24251) with Pastor Steve Collins and Pastor Nathan Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, prior to the service.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 28, 2025, at Horton Roller Cemetery, (10747 Fairview Road, Blackwater, VA, 24221) with Pastor Steve Collins and Pastor Jeff Wallen officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Horton, Cory Judd, Joshua Howard, Joshua Mowell, Jacob Howard, James Carlson, Jeramy Isbel, John Gilbert, and Derek Gilbert.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Chester Wheeler, George Flanary, Fred Shreiber, Greg Arnold, Larry France, Tom Stewart, Junior Wells, and Jackie Moore.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain Region Home Health, Dr. Kliesch, the staff of ICU and Hospice Care of Holston Valley Medical Center.
