
Misty Nicole Odom Whitburn, age 50, Jonesborough, passed from this life to her eternal home in Heaven on Saturday, February 1, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease.
Misty was the only child of her parents, Rodney and Betty Jenkins Odom, Jonesborough.
She was preceded in death by her earthly father, Rodney Odom, her maternal grandparents, Spencer & Doris Jenkins, Elizabethton, TN, paternal grandparents, Pauline Odom, Elizabethton, and Ray and June Odom, Newport News, VA, a beloved uncle, Wayne Odom, Elizabethton and aunts, Shirley Watson, Elizabethton and Rose Marie Hypes, Locust, NC.
She is survived by her loving mother and caregiver, Betty Odom; cousins, Margaret Medley (Randy), Seth & Mikayla, Mountain City, Major Chad Hypes (Cindy), Cierra, Colton & Claire Bonaire, GA, Amy Threatt (Rob), Noah, Joshua, Andrew, Lancaster, SC; and uncle, Roger Hypes, Locust, NC.
Misty was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church, Johnson City. She loved the Lord with all her heart and lived her life in such a way as to honor Him.
Misty was a graduate of David Crockett High School, Jonesborough. She received her associate’s degree from Clovis Community College, Clovis, N.M. She received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Fayetteville, NC.
She will be remembered by those who knew her for her gentle, kind, and generous nature and her beautiful smile. She loved to make people laugh and never lost her sense of humor, even on the bad days. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. We know, however, that she is now whole and in the arms of her Savior, whom she loved so much and looked forward to meeting face to face.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all her friends and family who have walked this journey with her in any way, especially your prayers. Thank you to Antioch Baptist Church who has continually ministered to her and her mother throughout this long journey. Your kindness, love and prayers will never be forgotten. To Amedisys Hospice and Avenues Home Care, especially Kelsey, for the wonderful care they have given to Misty. She loved you all.
Memorial services will be conducted 6:00 PM Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Pete Tackett officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 PM Thursday prior to the service.
