David was my first cousin, greatly admired as a role model, not just by me, but his classmates at Jenkins High School. He was loved by everyone for his jovial attitude, character, and positive outlook. He graduated in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, a marriage that lasted until Minnie Hill Blizzard passed away. David and Monnie moved to Alexandria, Virginia. I’ll never forget how he tried to help me get a job in the DC area, even lending me a freshly starched shirt for an interview which he set up. David got a job at the Naval Research Laboratory. He went on to become a mechanical engineer and was the payload engineer on the third shuttle flight launching the Solar Ultraviolet Spectrum Iradiance Monitor, to better understand the sun’s impact on the earth. David spent months at White Sands, New Mexico in rocket research. After he retired from NRL he moved to Tennessee and became a real estate broker.
