We gather here today to remember and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman my dear Great Aunt Mildred. She was not just my aunt; she was my godmother, a cherished mentor, and a guiding light in my life. Aunt Mildred was a source of wisdom and love from my earliest memories. She had an incredible ability to offer sound advice, always knowing just what to say when I needed it most, and even when I didn’t. Her thoughtful words were complemented by the beautiful gifts she showered upon me, each one chosen with care and affection. I will never forget the blue velvet skirt and matching blue shirt she gave me one Christmas. I felt like a princess when I wore it. As a child, I noticed she never hesitated to help my grandmother, her sister. My grandmother relied on her heavily for grocery shopping and other errands. I enjoyed those visits, sitting in the back seat, listening to their conversations, and receiving Aunt Mildred’s wise advice. As I grew older, I came to understand and admire the deep love she had for her own son, which profoundly inspired me on my journey as a mother. Aunt Mildred set a powerful example of what it means to be a nurturing and strong parent, instilling in me the importance of resilience and compassion. She taught me that strength is more than just endurance; it's about embracing challenges with grace and courage. She faced divorce and single parenting during a time when it was frowned upon. She worked many years in the telephone department, persevering through it all with hard work, grace, and courage. She is truly a woman I admire. Her legacy is one of love, strength, and devotion. We are all the better for having known her. As we say our goodbyes, let us carry forward the lessons she imparted and the love she shared, ensuring that her spirit lives on in our hearts and actions. My dear Aunt Mildred will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
