LOIS (DOLORIES) ANN HODGE(S) HUGHES, JONESBOROUGH, TN, PASSED AWAY ON NOVEMBER 5, 2024. SHE WAS MARRIED TO HER ENDEARING CARL HUGHES FOR 24 YEARS AND IS PRECEDED BY HIS DEATH IN 2008.

SHE GREW UP ON A FARM WITH HER GRANDPARENTS IN LIMESTONE, TN AND GRADUATED FROM WASHINGTON COLLEGE ACADAMY, EARNING THE MOST OUSTSTANDING ATHLETIC AWARD.

SHE PROUDLY WAS EMPLOYED AS A LONG-TIME AGRICULTURE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY DAUGHTER SHARON NELSON RUSH (HUSBAND: MICHAEL) AND SON, SAM NELSON (WIFE: MELISA), GRANDCHILDREN: BRANDON NELSON AND EMMA KATE NELSON), STEPSONS: DANNY AND GARY HUGHES, AND A HOST OF FRIENDS.

SHE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS: MARY ANN (MEARINDA) WILLIS HODGE(S) AND JAMES EARL HODGE(S), FATHER OF HER CHILDREN- BOB NELSON, AND HER “MAW” (CALLIE DUNN HODGES) AND “PAW” (JAMES B.) HODGES.

HER “PAW” AND BRANDON WERE THE HEART OF WHO SHE WAS AND BECAME THROUGHOUT HER LIFE. HER DEEP LOVE, RESPECT AND BOND WITH HER “PAW” WAS REFLECTED THROUGH HER RELATIONSHIP WITH BRANDON. SHE NEVER FORGOT WHO LOVED HER AND SHARED THAT LOVE TIRELESSLY.

LOIS HAD A WORK ETHIC OF A MAN. HER HARD WORK AND DRIVE, ALONG WITH MANAGEMENT OF ONE’S LIFE WAS LIVED THROUGH A STRONG FAITH AND LOVE FOR GOD. SHE WOULD OFTEN SAY: “PRAY LIKE EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON GOD, WORK LIKE EVRYTHING DEPENDS ON YOU”, “I’LL TRY MY BEST”, AND WHEN IT PERTAINED TO CLEANING: “THERE IS A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE.”

HER DAILY SCRIPTURES:
PSALM 23 (Always ending with “I Love You My Precious Jesus”), JOHN 3:16, I CORINTHIANS 2:9……AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO THE JONESBOROUGH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

The Graveside Service will be Friday, November 22, 2024 at Washington County Memory Gardens (Johnson City, TN), at 3pm, with Rev. Steve Parker presiding.

The Celebration of Life service will also be Friday, November 22, 2024 at Jonesborough United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brad Scott and the JUMC Chancel Choir. We will gather to celebrate at 5pm with the service starting at 6pm.
