Mr. Jay Charles Wheeler, age 88, of Jonesborough, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at James H. Quillen Medical Center.
He was born on January 12, 1936, in Bulls Gap, Tennessee, to the late Oscar and Maggie Jenkins Wheeler.
Jay proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was an owner and agent of State Farm Insurance for 36 years. Jay loved to fish and spend time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He always had a joke and enjoyed making people smile.
He attended Rock Heritage Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Wheeler; son, Eddie C. Wheeler; several siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Douglas Wheeler (Sandy); step-children, Ben “Dooner” Hooper III (Lucy), Lauren “Boo” Bible (Steve); grandchildren, Amanda Sims (Aaron), Jay Wheeler (Emily), Ben “Tige” Hooper IV (Julia), Theo Hooper (Cara), Drew Bible; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Justus, and Ava Sims, Hudson, Grayson and Kylee Wheeler; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Trevor Knight officiating.

Doug - Your Dad was always good to my Mom & Dad, & whenever I ran into him over the years he enjoyed reminiscing & then talking about his grandchildren. A fine man who will be missed.
Jay was my husbands brother who passed away in 2020. Jay was a wonderful brother in law and I will miss his weekly phone calls to see if I was doing well after Worth passed. Sending our deepest sympathies to the family. Love to all from me and my family Faye
