Mrs. Kate P. McKinney, age 98, passed away at her home on Friday, October 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Kate was born on January 10, 1926, to the late Ira and Dorothy Peterson.
As a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and cherished friend, her life was a testament to the strength of family, faith and passion for the things she held dear.
Kate’s life was centered around her family and her deep devotion to her faith. As the oldest living member of Jackson Park Covenant Brethren Church, Kate faithfully attended services for decades, and her Bible was a constant companion that she read daily.
Known for her talent with a needle and thread, she crafted beautiful quilts and hand-sewn treasures, each one infused with love and care. These keepsakes will continue to be cherished by family and friends for generations, a reminder of her skill and generosity.
Kate could often be found engrossed in a book with her best friend, Willie, her devoted dog, always close by. Kate’s home was filled with laughter and warmth, thanks to her quick with that brought smiles to all around her.
Kate’s memory is forever preserved in the beautiful moments she created, the stories she shared, and the love she poured into her family and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clay McKinney; daughter, Elaine Clouse; great-grandson, Austin Britton; great-great grandson, Clay Thomas Collins; sons-in-law, Buddy Day and Ronnie Clouse; all her brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish Kate’s memory are her daughter, Linda Day; grandchildren, Alisa Payne, Ronda Cooper (Scott), Mike Day (Wanda), Bill Britton (Lori), Jon Britton (Nikki), Scott Britton (Katie), LuAnn Thornburg (Tim), and Neisha Clouse; great-grandchildren, Katie Fox (Jordan), Mendy Collins (Eric), Mackenzee Cooper, Cody Day (Kendra), Dustin Day (Caitlin), Mason Britton (Emma), Seth Britton, Laney Britton, Bo Britton, Ben Britton, Taylor Britton McGriff (James), Leland Britton, Kattie Lowe, Kassie Lowe, Callie Lee (Christian), Hank Lowe, Cambree Thornburg; great-great grandchildren, Jake Fox, Lyndee Fox, Sadee Collins, Sophee Collins, Skyler Day, Aiden Day, Walker Day, Luke Day, Sawyer McGriff, Jensan McGriff, and Indie Lee; special niece, Jeannie Evans; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for family and close friends at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with grandson, Cody Day and Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to "The Shed", located at 903 W. Main Street Jonesborough. All donations can be sent to Jackson Park Covenant Brethren Church, 100 Oak Grove Ave, Jonesborough, Tn. 37659 in c/o "The Shed"
