Mr. William P. “Willie” Hilbert, age 74, Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Hilbert was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, on March 20, 1950, to the late Samuel C. & Stella Mae Payne Hilbert. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel D. Hilbert.
He was a member of Jonesborough Church of Christ.
Mr. Hilbert was a retired Valve Specialist for Eastman Chemical Company.
He was a lifetime member and former Chief of the Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served for over 50 years. He was a member of Eastman Motor Sports Club and an avid Rook player at the Marathon.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Fender Hilbert, Jonesborough; son, USAF Captain William Ralph J. Hilbert (Nani) Fall Branch; grandchildren, Liam and Lilli; brother, John “Joe” O. Hilbert (Martha) Gray; niece, Dr. Angela Hilbert; sister-in-law, Betty Hilbert; niece, Amy Boling (Travis) nephew, Aaron Hilbert (Renee); sister-in-law, Verlyn Bailey; niece, Angie Owen (Toby); great nieces and nephews, Taylor R. Owen, Peyton Boling, Brayden Hilbert, Emma Hilbert, Hannah Hilbert, Kara Hilbert, and Samantha Hilbert; special friends, Rachel and Andy Cunnyham, Rod Gardner, Jim Bledsoe, Dennis Robbins, Darrell Cox, Eric Barnes, Bruce Bacon, Mike Murphy, Crockett Baines, Randy Haun, Jake Haun, Kim Carter and Jerry Collins; and several cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 7400 floor nurses at Johnson City Medical Center for their kindness, prayers and love to Willie. Thanks to "Thursday Night" Rook Players, Benji Bowman, Kyle Carson and Richard Squibb, and to all of Willie's friends at ECU (Charlie Ball). Thank you for being there and keeping him busy with Rod's, trips, out to eat and Rook games.
Memorial services will be conducted 7:00 PM, Friday, October 4, 2024, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Payne and Pastor Jeremy Lynd officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday prior to the service.
