Mr. James “Jim” G. Oliver, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home.
Jim was born on August 16, 1942, to the late Earl Guy and Lucy Tester Oliver.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Jim had many jobs throughout his life but retired as a supervisor from Pike Electric. He was a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church.
Jim played in a bluegrass band all his life. He loved woodworking and enjoyed refurbishing and making banjos and guitars. He was such a talented man and loved his children and grandchildren more than anything.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by siblings, Edith Casey, Billy Joe Oliver, Robert Lee Oliver, and Pansy Louise Dunn, half-brother, Edgar Oliver; infant daughter, Angie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice Oliver; daughters, Cathy Renea Cotton (Tommy Cotton) and Lori Ann Hughes (Richard Hughes); siblings, Betty Cade, Judy Ringley, Dorothy Hicks (Gene), Earl Ray Oliver, David John Oliver; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday June 29, 2024, at Westerly Heights Baptist Church (628 N Center Street, Johnson City, TN 37601) with Pastor Jim Stout officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, prior to the service. A Graveside Service will follow at Oliver Cemetery in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
