16. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Michael “Mickey” Lynn Hopkins born April 21, 1956, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Agape-Waters Community.
Mickey attended Keystone Elementary, South Jr High, and was an honors graduate of the SHHS Class of 1974. He attended ETSU and worked as an accountant for Rainbow Bakery in Charlotte before returning home to JC. He retired after many years working as an ophthalmic technician. Mickey operated several booths in area antique stores which allowed him to hunt for vintage collectibles and visit with the many friends he met along the way.
Mickey was a member of Austin Springs Methodist Church where he gave his life to Christ and loved helping with Bible School and church meals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann Oaks Hopkins Odom and Dave Odom, Randolph Hopkins, Sr., a brother, Randolph “Randy” Hopkins, Jr., and uncle, Herman “Bud” Oaks, Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Debbie (Frankie) Ramsey; aunt, Sue (Gary) Speer; aunt, Linda (Roy) Tipton; sister-in-law, Reola Hopkins; and cousins, Allison (Rick) Smith, Ashley (Barry) Minter, and Logan and Tristan Smith.
Mickey was a survivor of colon cancer and was grateful for the love and care he received from his friends and extended family during that previous battle. He bravely fought this latest fight with special thanks to the Gentiva hospice team, the extraordinary nurses and staff of Agape Nursing Facility, the church family at Austin Springs Methodist Church, helpful neighbors, extended family, and the dear friends of the SHHS class of 1974.
Following the arrangements made by Mickey, his body was donated to the Quillen College of Medicine for the benefit and education of others.
Family and friends are invited to the home of Allison and Rick Smith on Saturday, July 13th from 2:00-5:00pm, 2402 Avondale Dr. to celebrate Mickey’s life. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
Memorials in Mickey’s memory can be made to Austin Springs Methodist Church, 726 S Austin Springs Rd, JC, TN 37601 or The Johnson City Public Schools Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 1517, JC, TN 37605.
