Mr. Gregory Wayne Richardson, age 44, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his wife, sister, nieces, and good friend, George.
Greg was a graduate of the David Crockett High School class of 1995. He was highly intelligent and very skilled with computers and programming. As a teenager he worked in tobacco fields with his sister. Greg was a skilled roofer and construction worker, a profession he worked for most of his life with his late father.
He lived in the state of Florida for a short time before relocating back to the Jonesborough, Johnson City area, finally settling in Erwin for the remainder of his adult life. This was the town in which he met his future wife. Greg was a God-fearing man who attended church whenever he was able. A very hard worker, he was always making others laugh and was always the life of the party. There was never a dull moment to be had with Greg around. He was fond of and owned old muscle cars and trucks throughout his life and enjoyed going on rides with his beloved dogs, Brutus and years later, Red. He enjoyed working on computers for friends and family, always free of charge because in his words, they are family. He was always on to the latest games apps and programming before anyone else. He was a music lover and enjoyed Jamie Johnson, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns and Roses, and many others. He was a loyal friend and all who called him friend, were lifelong. His biggest dream was to see his children grow into adulthood and find their own spouses and become a grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorrine Kay Miner and Ricky Wayne Richardson; brother, Daniel Ray Richardson; paternal grandparents, Opal Mae Richardson and Johnny Richardson; maternal grandparents, Lelia Mae Casey Briggs and Dorsey Briggs; several aunts, uncles, and late friends.
Greg is survived by his wife, Penny Richardson; daughter, Serenity Mae Richardson; son, Ricky Daniel Richardson; sisters, Brandy Cole and husband, Gideon, Danielle Scott and husband, Tyler; three nieces, Amber Jones, Ashley Jones, and Destiny Cole; one nephew, Jackson Gates; special friends, Shane Briggs, Sherry Briggs, and Jason Hensley; special cousin, Kevin Denton; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the nurses at the Johnson City Medical Center ICU for their love and care of Greg during his stay, and Alisa for her beautiful and thoughtful gift to the family during his passing.
