It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Margaret “Maggie” Nopo. In the early morning of May, the 26th. Margaret left this earth after succumbing to multiple illnesses. Even though she was a fighter, her tiny body was tired, and in pain. Her faith was strong and she was ready to be at peace with the Lord.
Born February 14th, 1941, Margaret was the second of three girls born to Juanita (Coley) and Verle Horne. She graduated in 1958 from Elizabethton High School. In 1961, she married her childhood sweetheart, Ernest Gouge, who preceded her in death in 1982. Together they raised their two sons, Scott and Todd Gouge, in Sanford, Florida. Margaret was a dedicated mother, protector and advocate for her boys. Her love for children inspired her working career in various school systems. She thoroughly enjoyed the youth helping them learn and to feel loved.
Margaret was a beautiful person both inside and out. Her presence brought sunshine and much joy into your soul. She was a talented artist and her hands were never idle. Her many hobbies included drawing, painting, sewing, decorating, writing and cooking. One of her favorite pastimes was simply sitting outside on a front porch enjoying nature with a cup of coffee in hand, a good book to read and a friend by her side.
She is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Germán Nopo; her beloved sons, Scott and Todd Gouge; her canine companion, Opie; her sisters, Martha Dotson and Karen Churchwell; her granddaughters, Randi Martin, Alicia Gouge and Katelin Ford; several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Friday, June 28th at 12 noon, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Party to follow for friends and family at the home of Scott Gouge - 4011 Hwy 81 South, Jonesborough, TN 37659
