Stuart Lumsden

05/17/2024

Stuart Franklin Lumsden, age 76, of Jonesborough, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

Stuart was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on April 7, 1948, to Roy and Alice (Pugh) Lumsden. He was raised in Orange, Virginia, graduating from Orange High School in 1966.

He retired from Vulcan Materials in Phoenix, Arizona in 2010. He loved the Arizona desert and spent many hours driving the back country desert roads and experiencing the cultures of the Native American tribes of the Four Corners region. He also had a special love of Yellowstone National Park, visiting on several occasions. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but largely just appreciated time in the woods or by a lake getting close to nature. Taking pleasure in the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains in his travels gave him great joy. No one who met Stuart could ever doubt that he was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Stuart was a kindhearted man with a smile that would light up any room.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bev Lumsden.

Left to love and cherish his memory forever are his wife of 42 years, Kristina “Kris”; devoted stepdaughter, Heather (Bill) Paolello; son, Thomas Lumsden, daughter Yvonne (Carter) Dawson; sister, Joyce (Mike) Bosworth; sister-in-law, Angela (Bobby) Spurlock; nephews, John Bosworth and Ben Sanner; nieces, Anna Bosworth, Melissa Via, and Rachel Bauer; very dear friends, Tom and Ellen Snodgrass, Shea Fisher and her children, Sunnie and Sadie; many dear cousins.

Stuart was a member of Jonesborough United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. There will be a Celebration of Life at Jonesborough United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM, on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, prior to the service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care from the dedicated nurses and doctors at Johnson City Medica Center, especially, Dr. Christy Lawson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jonesborough United Methodist Church, 211 West Main Street, PO Box 115, Jonesborough, Tennessee 37659.

Condolences may be sent to the Lumsden family online at www.dillow-taylor.com

Stuart, you were such a blessing to Kris and I know how much she enjoyed retirement years with you in Tennessee. I know you will continue to watch over her until you are together again one day in Heaven. Kris, may the peace of God surround you in this time. We mourn for those we lose but rejoice that Stuart is in Heaven with Jesus, and one day we will all be together again!
