Wilda Frye Walker reached Heaven on April 15, 2024. She was a native of Greene County, Tennessee, born on July 11, 1928, to Richard Burgess Frye and Willie Brumley Frye. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 72 years, George Jefferson Walker.
Wilda graduated from Fall Branch High School in 1945. After receiving a diploma in Secretarial Sciences, she earned a B.S. Degree in office administration from Steed College in May 1979.
It was at Steed College where she met her future husband, George J. Walker, following his return from service in the U.S. Navy. They married in “Old” Butler Baptist Church on August 20, 1947.
She worked at Steed College for eighteen years and eight years at Bristol University. Wilda served as Director on the Appalachian Fair Board for forty years.
Wilda and George were members of Gray United Methodist Church. They were also involved with the Butler Museum.
Wilda is preceded in death by her parents and husband George J. Walker, a sister, Ellen Lucille Davis and brother-in-law, Orbin Davis, sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Walker Ward, and brother-in-law, Ernest J. Ward.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, M. Kent & Dana Walker, Jonesborough; granddaughters, Morgan Walker of Nashville, TN and Georgia Walker of Asheville, NC; nephews, Jim Ward and Alan Davis.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:30pm Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Gray United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 pm with Rev. Aaron Atchley officiating. Internment service will be held at 3pm at Washington County Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jim Ward, Joe Frazier, Jim Slagle, John Baker, Scott Williams, and Scott Brokaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Lyle Eagle and Morris Wyatt.
Memorial donations may be made to Gray United Methodist Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 8068, Gray, TN 37615, or Butler Museum at P.O. Box 261, Butler, TN 37640.
