Jewel White

04/14/2024

Jewel White, age 78, passed peacefully into eternity on April 14, 2024.

She was born on June 25, 1946, to the late John and Vada Broyles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandson, Tommy Trobaugh and his wife, Akita Trobaugh.

Jewel was a person who invested in others, and she continued this throughout her life. If there was something to be done for other people, she was passionate to see it done. She was a driven and hard-working person that was able to laugh at herself.

She earned a Master of Education degree from Tusculum University and devoted herself to the education of thousands of children. Her compassion for students ranged far beyond the lessons she taught. She supported them in their sports and their lives outside of school. From the beginnings of her long teaching career, she brought home students with financial and family hardships for warm showers, clean clothes, and meals.

She was an eager part of the lives of grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed many hours on hikes, trampolines, and field trips with them, always teaching and loving.

She overcame many physical challenges in the later years of her life, but throughout, she remained more focused on others than herself. After weeks confined to her bed, her first questions for visitors were always focused on other’s lives and their challenges.

She is survived by her husband, Don White; sons, Tom (Martha) Deaderick, Chris (Frieda) Deaderick; her son’s father, Tom Deaderick Sr.; daughter, Patty (Jerry) Davis; grandsons, Zachary (Leslie) Deaderick, Ian (Deondra) Deaderick, Colton Deaderick, Shane (Ashley) Atkins; Garrett Deaderick; granddaughters, Kaleigh Deaderick, Kristin Lupori, Brittney Atkins (Jeremy); sisters, Jane (Gaines) Cox, Vicky (Chris) Correll, Sherry (Lawrence) Barker, Pam (Roger) McBride; several great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, prior to the service. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 19, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery.

Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers.

What a lady! She was such a blessing to me as a timid, backward girl in Algebra class. I am very thankful to have been taught by her and then reconnect with her after my graduation. She was always so supportive and encouraging. Sending many prayers to the White family during this time.

My favorite memory of Jewell was when we were much younger and our family gathered at our house in Limestone on Sunday afternoons on many occasions. All cousins in attendance played softball in our neighbor’s field across the road. The 2 oldest were always the captains, Jewel was one of those. As a youngster then, I was always amazed Jewell would ALWAYS choose the youngest from the group while the other captain would go for the best, strongest, tallest players, but Jewel continued to choose those she wanted to encourage & build up. I was always pleased she chose both me & my sister (who was among the youngest present.) I admired her then for doing that & admired her more as we grew up. I have always seen her as an encourager, fierce & loyal friend to many, marvelous teacher & defender of the underdogs in her world. I look forward to reuniting with her & all our family that have preceded us & gathered to celebrated her arrival in heaven. Hmmm … maybe playing a game of softball among the other many wonderful things to do there! An amazing life change! I know you’re having the time of your life!
