Mr. James “Jim” Leonard Black, age 86, of Jonesborough, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Four Oaks Healthcare.

He was born on May 31, 1937, to the late Joseph and Anna Sessoms Black, in Hope Mills, North Carolina.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he met his best friend, Joseph Murray who preceded him in death. After his 8 years of service, Jim was an electrician. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. Jim loved to watch football and golf.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life, Velma Walters Black and daughter, Carol Mae Brooks Baker.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, David Arch Brooks (Cynthia) of Maryland and Roy Craig Brooks of South Carolina; brother, Warren Lee Black and many friends.

An Inurnment will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors.

I was an electrician and worked on many church projects with Jim and we shared many interesting tales about our profession. He will be missed! My hope is that we will meet again when Jesus returns.
