Vernon "David" Ford
10/23/2023
Vernon “David” Ford went home to Jesus on October 23, 2023. David was born on February 13, 1949, in Washington County to Glenn L. Ford and Julia Ann Ford.
David was a deeply spiritual man who shared God’s love with others. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and was loved and admired by many.
When David wasn’t sharing his love for the Lord, you could find him on a golf course with best friends, watching Tennessee Football, or playing with his grandchildren. He was a retired teacher and esteemed coach at Boones Creek Middle School and Daniel Boone High School.
David was an example of a man driven by his purpose and faith in God. He would always challenge those around him to seek the love and acceptance of God so they could have eternal life with our loving Father.
David’s legacy will live on in his books that he wrote and the memories he made with those who had the privilege to know him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, step-father, “Gump,” (grandfather), nephew, cousin and friend.
David is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Sonneberger Ford; step-daughter, Judith “Maci” Ferguson and husband, Andrew Ferguson; step-son, Robert “Seth” Dempsey Sonneberger and partner, Josh Jordano; and grandchildren, Eli David Ferguson (age 4) and Nora Grace Ferguson (age 2).
In the wise words of David, “The greatest day of a Christian's life is the day they die. They are now with Jesus and they wouldn't come back to this earth if they could.”

David and I became friends at the Moose Lodge. He was the one I would always sit by if he was there. Often, he and his wife Lydia would be there having dinner together. I had read one of his books and we discussed various things from religion to sports. He was a good man and it showed each and every time I saw him. My sincere regret is that I never got to know him as well as I should have. RIP David.

David was my best friend growing up. We were on the Boones Creek track and cross country teams together under his uncle Carl Winkle. His Mom, Dad and family were as close as my own. I will never forget their kindness. I believe David always gave his all and was a great competitor. We played thousands of rounds of Putt Putt with Tony and Tommy Seaton. Later we challenged each other in golf and fishing. I hope and pray we'll be playing together again one day.
Coach Ford was a true gentleman who shared his love and faith in God, by the way he lived his life!! He was a mentor, excellent teacher and a special kind friend!!!! He will be missed,
LYDIA, I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers and love coming your way..

David's family was my neighbors on Central Street for many years. I baby sit him when his parents went out of town and then when he was older, he baby sit for me. We went to the same church during his youth and our families camped together on Boone Lake. I can remember David and my self getting up early to take the boat out for fishing before the rest of the family awaken. David was a real joy and an unsual teen. He was shy and I don't remember him ever getting into trouble. He was always ready to help anyone out. He shared deer meat with me from his numerous hunting trips. He became a true Christian man and always gave me copies of his books as he completed them. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Family, may the Peace of Jesus and Comfort of the Holy Spirit sustain you during this valley. David has left foot prints on many hearts.
Dave you were my good friend as a fellow teacher at Daniel Boone High School my heartaches at your passing. Words can not express all that I could say about you. I am so sorry dear family for your loss, I am sure you are just as shocked as I am. I have some of the books that Dave wrote and I will always cherish his insight and love for the Lord. Thank you Dave for being a great friend all those years at DBHS, I will never forget you. In Christ, Tommy Maines
What a great man and coach, I remember our long talks when I played ball for him and will always how wise and caring he was.
