Lynwood Harold Hill, 86, Jonesborough, passed away on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at Princeton Transitional Care, Johnson City.
A native of Madison County, North Carolina, Lynwood was the son of the late Cicero W. and Nell S. Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Sherfey Hill, and daughter, Audrey Hill Sinisi.
Lynwood graduated from Mars Hill High School in North Carolina. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies in 1959 from then-East Tennessee State College, and he and his parents and grandfather moved to Washington County, Tennessee. He became a member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, where he and Nancy met, married, and attended and served faithfully for the rest of their lives.
After college, Lynwood taught history and coached basketball at then-Fall Branch High School before changing careers to become a truck driver, working for Mason-Dixon Lines for 22 years. He retired from AFG Industries. He also served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve for several years and was a farmer.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters Jennifer Hill and Pamela Hill McCoy (Brad), and grandchildren Matthew McCoy and Marley McCoy.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at noon, with Pastor Scott Brady and Shelia Minier officiating. Graveside services will be held at Sulphur Springs Cemetery just after the Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, 1432 Gray-Sulphur Springs Road, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
Pallbearers will be Brad McCoy, Matthew McCoy, Ben Carder, Houston Carder, Dailey Carder and Steve Moffitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Akers Jr., Harry Akers III, Bruce Bacon, Kyle Carson, Johnny Deakins Jr., Dale Ford, Joe Hicks, Willie Hilbert, Dale Sanders, Darrin Sherfey, Joe Sinisi, Johnny Squibb and Mark Squibb.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Princeton Transitional Care and all of the caregivers who provided such wonderful care to Lynwood during his final weeks.
