George "Tim" Hunt

02/03/2022

George Timothy Hunt, 66, of Jonesborough, passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, February 3, 2022. The son of the late Walter & Eleanor Mangum Hunt, Tim was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on April 11, 1955.

Tim had a knack for making people laugh. He was an avid golfer and loved watching football, specifically Virginia Tech. Tim never met a stranger and he brightened every room he walked in to.

After attending Virginia Tech, Tim began his 39 year career as a locomotive engineer with CSX Railroad.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pamela, sister, Jennifer Young (Jay), brother, Ken Hunt (Kay), brother-in-law, David Kotheimer, and his nieces & nephews who thought Tim hung the moon and the stars, Lisa Hunt Kuebler, Kristen Hunt Thorn, Chip Hunt and Hunter Young-Busse.

In addition to his parents, Tim is preceded in death by his cherished 6 fur-babies.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Washington County Animal Shelter or the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

I met Tim at the Moose Lodge and he captivated me from the get-go. Being a fan of trains that I am, Tim's stories from working for CSX always got me excited. His recounting of seeing Pink Floyd at Clemson got me excited. His sociability and kindness were what defined him (to me). Lastly, he is responsible for the one and only low-country boil I've ever experienced, and I am eternally thankful for that. My father (Cliff) and I mourn this loss, and will miss him very, very much.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of Pam’s husband. Having worked with Pam I know how much she loved him. The loss of those we love is never easy as we are left without them but Heaven will rejoice at gaining a new angel. Sending prayers for comfort and peace for Pam and the family.

He certainly could make everyone laugh or smile. He was precious and my heart hurts for the past few years of illness he experienced. He was an example to each of us on how to be happy and give that happiness away. His wife Pam is one of the most sincere and caring people I have ever met. May God be with Pam and each family member during this difficult time. Gary and I send our love and prayers.

From the first day you met Tim your felt like you had known him your entire life! Warm, geniune, fun and honest he was to us fellow railroaders. He was a genius and could add, subtract and multiply three figured numbers in his head. Most memorable to me will be his quick wit, care for others and his full engaging laughs! RIP my brother. Love you man.
