In those first few minutes after I read that Taft Hill had departed this life I, like so many others I'm sure, experienced that cold sadness one bears when someone from their past has died. But as I began to recall many of the scores of times I was able to encounter Taft, be it at First Presbyterian Church or on a softball diamond representing First Pres, I began to grin from ear to ear as I recalled his quick wit and honorable demeanor. On so many more than a few occasions, he provided an outstanding example of gentlemanly, Christ-centered competitiveness and fun that edified me during my teenage years. Those are lessons that I recall, and cherish, to this day. I am praying for, and sending heartfelt condolences to, Jeanette, Brian, and the rest of Taft's family. And I want them to know that he made a meaningful difference in my life.

"Words will not wipe away your tears and hugs may not ease the pain but hold onto your memories because forever they will remain." My condolences to Jeanette, Brian and all the family members. I have have know Taft since the late 70's and he was a person I respected, admired and enjoyed being around. When you thought of softball in the church leagues in Johnson City, Taft was always front and center. He coached young men at First Presbyterian Church for many years. Taft served on the Church Athletic Board for JC Parks & Recreation for more than 25 years. He later served on the JC Parks & Recreation Board. In the 80's Taft played for JC Seniors Softball Team and went undefeated for several years and played in two national tournaments. It is sad a polite and gentle person is no longer with us but he definitely made a difference in a lot of kids lives including mine. He will be missed!

Jeanette, on behalf of Wayde Brown's family (Eulee and children), I would like to send our deepest condolences for your loss. Dad (and our family) always thought a lot of Taft. Dad, Taft, and we kids had many lunches at Logan's when they worked together at Mountain Empire Auction and Real Estate. Sweet memories of both men to cherish. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
