Mr. George Jefferson Walker, Gray, TN passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center at the age of 94.
Mr. Walker was born in Old Butler, TN on December 4, 1925, to Glenn Glasco Walker and Leona Lou Dugger Walker.
George graduated from Watauga Academy in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp from March 1944 to June 1946. He received a B.S. Degree in Higher Accounting from Steed College in May 1949. There he met and married Wilda Frye on August 20, 1947. They have been active members of Gray United Methodist Church since 1958 where he taught Sunday School until his health failed.
He worked at Mason Dixon Transportation Company for 35 years and Trenway Textiles for 3 years. He served as Director and Treasurer of The Appalachian Fair for 40 years; also, as a member of the Tennessee Association of Fairs, serving as the state President in 1986. Afterwards he was a board member and tour guide for Butler Museum. George enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and gardening; but his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife of over 72 years, Wilda Frye Walker; son, Kent Walker (Dana) Jonesborough; sister, Mary Ward, Washington College; granddaughters, Morgan, Nashville, TN, and Georgia, Asheville, NC; nephews, Jim Ward and Allen Davis; and several great nieces and cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Washington County Memory Gardens. Due to Covid-19, there will not be a receiving of friends, but they may sign a register at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Wednesday from 11:00-1:30 prior to the graveside.
Active pallbearers will be Jim Slagle, Joe Frazier, Jim Ward, Jacob Adkins, John Baker, Allen Davis and Floyd Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Gray United Methodist Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Gray United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 8068, Gray, TN 37615 or Butler Museum P.O. Box 261, Butler, TN 37640.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors and all the staff at the VA Medical Center for their care over the years and to his church family and friends for their love and support.

Wilda, Kent, Dana, Morgan, Georgia and family - George was like a brother to our parents, Rush and Annie Hamley, they loved spending time and traveling with him and Wilda and were always happy to see and talk to them. Now, they can celebrate in heaven together! We have know each other for so long that it seems like we are family! It is wonderful that he lived such a good, long and Godly life and was able to touch so many other people's lives as he traveled through this world. I know he will be greatly missed by each of you.
