Mrs. Ethelyn Hassell, age 92, Johnson City passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at her residence.
Mrs. Hassell was born in Washington County, daughter of the late Richard “Cart” Rector and Pearl Rector. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Crawford; her second husband, Gene Hassell; sons Phillip Crawford and Gary Crawford; sisters Gladys Booher, Myrtle Showman, Letha Cole, Golden Andes, Edith Peters, Ivey Rector, and Eugenia Rector; brother James “Jay” Rector and wife Lucy; niece Mildred Blake; and nephews Larry Rector and Steven Rector.
Mrs. Hassell retired from Kmart after 14 years of service. She also worked for several years at Broadway Restaurant and Motel.
Ethelyn enjoyed working in her flowers and yard until she became unable to do that. She was a member of The Woman of the Moose, Lodge 622, for years doing volunteer work.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Elliott; son, Richard Crawford; three grandchildren, Angela Scott and husband Chad, Gregory Foster, and Gary Dale Crawford; two great grandchildren Levi Foster and Nikki Adland; two great great grandchildren; special niece Phyllis and husband Ray; best friend Norma Trent; her “fur babies” Ginger and Gracie; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mrs. Hassell will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, April 24, 2020 at Providence Cemetery.

Crystal Peterson Love
My mother Jean Peterson (husband Ford Peterson) was best friends with Ethelyn when I was a child. My Mother passed away when I was 9. However, I still have such fond memories of Ethelyn and my Mom always having a good time together and laughing. They would go to late night dinners with their husbands while pawning me and my brother off at a very old neighbors house. After my mom passed away, Ethelyn worked in the Johnson City mall, which we lived close to. Every Friday night I would head to the mall and always stop in to see her. She would always try and buy me something from the store. I was able to visit her several times when visiting my cousins (The Cash's) throughout the years. I am so sorry for your loss.
