Mr. John N. Marr, age 67, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Charleston, South Carolina.
John Norman Marr was born on November 26, 1952 in Roseburg Oregon. He spent his childhood nurturing a love for the outdoors, sports of all kinds, and Scouting, where he attained the level of Eagle Scout. He came to East Tennessee to attend Milligan College. While at Milligan he met the love of his life Yvonne Bajko, whom he married in December of 1973. John and Yvonne lived a life together that was defined by love for each other, their family and for Jesus.
John Marr was so much more than the countless things he accomplished. He helped to launch over seven organizations and non-profits. Through his work, he helped tens of thousands of people around the world overcome obstacles and get their life on the right path. His life inspired others to pursue their dreams and to follow Jesus. He planted churches, started non-profits, and ran two organizations with his family. He spoke before the United Nations, and never missed one of his kid’s events.
Yet, John did not simply live a life, he lived a legacy. To anyone who was fortunate enough to have met him, he left a mark on their heart. John devoted his life to serving Jesus through serving others. Thousands of people around the world were touched and impacted by his compassion and kindness.
He was a hero to his two boys, Tony and TJ. His grandchildren adored their Baboo. He was a true patriarch. The centerpiece of the family, the gravity that held everyone together.
There are not enough words to describe the kind of man that John was. For those who were lucky enough to know him, you already know this and your life is richer because of John’s impact. He will be forever missed, but he will always be loved. The life he gave to others and the lessons that he leaves us will not leave with his passing. Because of the demonstration of Christs love that John gave us, and the message of faith in Jesus that his life preached, we know that we will soon be together again.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Bajko Marr, Johnson City; sons, Tony Steven Marr (Amanda), Jonesborough and T.J. Marr (Claire), Johnson City; sister, Dorthea Decker, Roseburg, Oregon; grandchildren, Jocelyn Marr, Mckenna Marr, Camden Marr, Caleb Marr, Eden Marr, Allie Frye, Emma Frye, Bella Frye and Isaac Frye.
A celebration of the legacy of John Norman Marr will be held at Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 7:00 pm with Minister Aaron Wymer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Higher Ministries 3406 Stoneridge Dr. Johnson City, TN 37604.

John indeed was a positive Christian influence in my life when I just couldn't figure out the love of Christ. His patient listening and kind, loving words were an ongoing encouragement in my quest to return to Him. I look forward to that day when we will be reunited again in the presence of our Lord. Unfortunately we will be out of town for his service on March 9th. We know it will be a blessed event and prayerful words for all to celebrate his life long commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ.
