Ms. Dorothy Irene Cox, 76, of Jonesborough, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center.
A loving daughter, sister, and aunt, Dorothy could always be found helping others. She was a kind and caring woman who was also very independent and proud. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her parents through years before they passed and helped raise many of her nieces and nephews. In her early life, she could be found at Burlington industries, where she worked over four decades. If not at Burlington, she could be found helping around her parent’s farm working in the garden or in the tobacco field. Over the years, Dorothy was a loving parent to her German Shepherds, Stormie and Ava; you could find her sitting out on her deck with them nearly every evening, weather-permitting, watching the cardinals in her dogwood tree. She loved going shopping at Hamrick’s, browsing through garage sales, and eating at the local Cracker Barrel. Around the holidays she loved planning parties for the family. She would make dishes that everyone would look forward to year after year. She enjoyed watching QVC, Tennessee sports, and Nascar races as a pass time in the latter part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vestal and Edith Cox, her sister, Faye Archer, and her fiancé and best friend of fifteen years, Junior Rupe.
She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Cooper (Ralph) of Johnson City, Rose Cates (Wayne), and Lisa Cox of Jonesborough; and by her brothers, Ron Cox and Darrell Cox (Donna) both of Jonesborough; and by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Michael Pearson, Dr. Vipul Brahmbatt, Dr. Carmina Garcia, and Dr. Charles Raudat for their excellent care and compassion over the past few years, along with the healthcare staff of Johnson City Medical Center.
Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. However, the family will receive friends at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home in Jonesborough from 5:00 â€" 7:00 pm Monday, November 11, 2019.
