Martha Irene Mashburn Crain, 95, formally of Telford, TN, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the home of her daughter in Johnson City, TN, due to an extended illness. She was a Unicoi County native, but had lived in Washington County for the past 67 years and was a daughter on the late James and Lonie Stockton Mashburn.
Mom was the oldest member of the Jonesborough Baptist Church, which she loved and attended as long as her health permitted. She was a Christian, a hard worker, a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Mitchell Crain, a grandson Robert Keplinger, two brothers, Harold Mashburn and Vance Mashburn and twin sister Mary Ollis.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Tommy (Linda) Crain of Telford and Lonnie (Ruby) Crain of Chuckey; her daughters, Wanda Coley, Mable Hughes, and Ruth (Clay) Hooks, all of Johnson City, and Mae (Larry) Kelpinger of Jonesborough; her grandchildren, Margaret “Dee” Moore, Tammy Brown, Phillip Coley, Lori Roberts, Steven Crain, Ricky Crain, Joann Potter, Joshua Hughes, Deborah Barnett, Melony Broyles, Amy Cox and Chad Hooks. Twenty-eight great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her granddaughter, Tammy Brown, for dedicated care that she gave her grandmother. Special thanks also to Avalon Hospice, especially Christa and Pandora.
Funeral services for Mrs. Crain will be held 7:00 PM, Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Robbins and Pastor Chad Hooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM prior to the service.
Graveside services will be 2:30 PM, Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
