Mr. James D. “Jim” France, age 78, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
Mr. France was born in Washington County and the son of the late John K. & Ruby Barker France. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Earnestine France.
He was a member of Marvin’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. France was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from the United States Postal Service. He also farmed and collected antique tractors.
Survivors include, one son, John David France, Jonesborough; grandson, John David France, Jr., Kingsport; granddaughter, Madelene Paige France, Asheville, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne & Jean France, Jonesborough; uncle, B.F. Barker; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Painter and Reba Thompson; best friend, Bud Sell; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Interment services will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Brother Joe Barker and Rev. Joel Cook officiating.
Pallbearers will be Rodger Barker, Allen Painter, Jonathan Painter, Steven Painter, Kevin Thompson and Robert Broyles.
Memorial donations may be made to Marvin’s Chapel United Methodist Church 1882 Old Boones Creek Rd. Johnson City, TN 37615.

I feel blessed to have known Jim during our years attending
Jonesborough schools. I will always remember his big smile
and his fun loving demeanor. My sincere condolences are

May good memories of your family comfort you all as you face
the coming days. Spoke with Jim a few weeks ago and
learned he was in poor health. So sorry for your loss. A
member of Jonesboro High Class of 1958.
So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had the
privilege of working with Jim at the
Jonesborough Post office for several years. He
always made the time pass faster and was fun to
be around. Teller of many stories and practical
jokes, we shared many a laugh and had good
times together at work. I also spent my early
school years with Earny at Lamar back in the
50's and 60's with many a fond memory of her..
They both were friends and will be greatly
missed....
