Doris Ann Durant Rogers, age 77, Johnson City, passed away May 18, 2019 at her residence following a courageous battle with ALS.
Doris was born in Conway, S.C. where she graduated in 1959 from Conway High School.
She was preceded in death in 2013 by her beloved husband of 54 years, James “Jimmy” Rogers; her parents, Hanaper and Bertha Durant; and brothers J.C. Durant and Carl Durant.
Doris retired from the City of Johnson City School System, where she worked as a secretary at both Liberty Bell and Science Hill High School.
She was a faithful member of North Johnson City Baptist Church and regularly volunteered at the Johnson City Medical Center. She enjoyed many hobbies which included: reading, needlepoint, knitting, traveling, and spending time with family.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Teresa Gobble and husband Jon of Johnson City; son David Rogers and wife Kristen of Powell, TN; beloved grandchildren Ashleigh Gobble Farmer and husband Jackson, Daniel Gobble, Katelynn Rogers, and Cameron Rogers; great granddaughter, Keziah Farmer; sisters, Pearl Cooper of Johnson City and Joann Durant of Conway; very special niece Kris Bogart (Chick) of Johnson City; special nephews Jimmy Cooper of Alpharetta, GA and Randy Durant (Gail) of Conway, S.C.; several great-nieces and great-nephews and their children; and many special friends which include her Sunday school class at North Johnson City Baptist Church and Hal and Allyson Bohlman. Doris loved her family dearly and had many special friends and loved ones.
The family extends special thanks to Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton; Dr. Whaley, nurse Carol, and the staff of Tri-State Mountain Neurology; as well as everyone who assisted in her care.
A memorial service will be held at North Johnson City Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 6:00 PM with visitation from 5:00 PM until the service.
Doris chose to have her body donated to the Quillen College of Medicine in hopes of assisting future physicians with the knowledge to provide services to their patients.

Dear Family,
I’m so very sorry to hear of your loss of Doris. I worked at the
Med center when she was there as a volunteer. She was
always so sweet to step into my office and we chatted about
our families to each other. She made each of my kids a peanut
pillow according to their likes. I loved her from the bottom of
my heart! One of the most genuine kind souls I’ve ever
known. Please know I’m praying for comfort and strength for
you all in the days to come.

Doris was so warm to me when I started working for the Johnson City School System in 1992 as an RN/School Nurse shared between Liberty Bell and Science Hill. She helped me get started in those early days on a new job, and I have never forgotten that kindness. We became friends, and I am grateful to have known her.

I appreciated Doris’ support when I taught at LBMS. She was
the epitome of a lady. My condolences to the family, especially
Pearl, who was also part of the LBMS “family.”
I haven’t seen Doris in a number of years, but I have very fond
memories of good times at Liberty Bell. She was a special
lady and I’m sad she is no longer with us. My thoughts are
with her loved ones.
Doris and I raised children together! We lived in the same
neighborhood, and our kids graduated together. I have fond
memories of those times! I hadn’t seen Doris in several years,
so I did not know about her ALS. RIP Doris!
To Doris’s loving family: Praying that God will comfort you in
your time of grief. I know she was a wonderful
mother/grandmother/great grandmother and loved each of you
very much.

It has been more than 15 years since I saw Doris.
She was alway kind and considerate. I loved talking
with her at Liberty. I am saddened to hear that she
has passed.My prayers are for the family.
