Howard Leslie Nickels went to be with the Lord on Friday April 26, at the home he shared with his wife, Ruth, for 20 years.
He was born in Johnson City, TN on November 19, 1945. He proudly served his God and country, retiring from the Marine Corps after 33 years of service. He also retired from Northern Tool and Equipment.
Howard was a kind and generous man who loved his family, friends, the USMC and Tennessee football.
Howard was the son of the late Wiley and Margaret Thompson Nickels. He was preceded in death by some his brothers and sisters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Tamra and Clinton Dominy, Brad Shelton, Tanya and Bobby Shaw, Lincoln and Denna Shelton, Regina Shelton and Amber Nickels. Howard has 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and three on the way.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Nickels will be held 5:00 PM, Monday, April 29, 2019 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Reverend Joey Murdock and Reverend Lincoln Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 -5:00 PM prior to the service.
Internment services will be 10:45 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
