The world has lost a very special lady. Marie Mathis Ferguson, age 89, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 following a lengthy illness.
Marie was born in Burnsville, NC the daughter of the late Roy and Eva McIntosh Mathis and was one of 13 children. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Willie J. Ferguson, her daughter, Vicki F Bostic, a granddaughter, Casey Marie Ferguson and several brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter Sherri Renfro, husband Larry, daughters Megan and Aly; a son, Michael Ferguson, wife Allison, his daughters Jennifer Ward and Jessica Ferguson; son-in-law Greg Bostic, daughter Brandi Tabor, son Clay Bostic and his wife Ami; great-grandchildren Kohl Cleveland, Lilli Tabor, Phoenix Ward, Liam Ward, Indie Ward, Greyson Bostic, Landen Bostic, Rhys Bostic, as well as sisters Mary Robinson, Louise Young, and Hanna Neighbors.
Marie retired from JC Penny where she won numerous awards for Excellence and Achievement. Her true loves in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her garden, planting flowers and most anything that bloomed, baking the world’s best sourdough bread, canning and sharing all of this with her friends and family. Her priorities also included being a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she loved to worship her Lord, sing and fellowship with friends.
While her life was defined by so many beautiful things she was also a warrior against numerous health challenges. She defeated and survived cancer twice, heart surgery, loss of her eye and other battles that any ordinary person would have succumbed to. During her battles she never lost hope, gave in to the ravages of time or lost her faith in God. She would always try to brighten the lives of others no matter what personal challenge she was enduring.
The family would like to thank and recognize Amedisys Home Health with a special thanks to Amy Maine and colleagues who provided compassionate medical care during her illness.
