Mr. Clifton Eugene “Gene” Edwards, age 80, of the Lamar Community, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center.
By profession he was a licensed electrician, but also spent many years serving his community and sharing his love of children and sports by umpiring baseball at Lamar. Gene was well known and loved as the “candy man”.
He was a trustee and active member of Community Baptist Church, Jonesborough.
He was born in Jonesborough, TN on February 24, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peco Edwards and Mary Ella (Deaderick) Edwards. Gene leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Alma Lee (Miller); his daughter, Lori Holder and husband, Kamay; daughter, Tina Purdie and husband, JB; son, David Edwards and wife, Shana; grandchildren, Jillian and Ethan; special sister-in-law, Anna Sue Hicks; sister, Jackie Greene; brother, Charles Edwards and wife, Linda; brother, Butch Edwards and wife, Brenda; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Cherokee Baptist Church, Jonesborough, with Pastor David Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm Saturday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Cherokee Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Frank Walters, Mark Pfeiffer, Jimmy Booth, Ken Robinette, Tom Baines and Ricky Broyles.
