Mr. Ralph J. Shipley, age 90, Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Shipley was born in Greeneville, TN and the son of the late Hubert & Katie Rollins Shipley. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Reaves, Mary Alice Justis, and Gladys Shipley and a brother, Buford Shipley.
He was a member of Limestone Freewill Baptist Church where he was a former Trustee.
Mr. Shipley was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He retired from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and enjoyed farming and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Jarrett Shipley, Jonesborough; son, David Shipley, Jonesborough; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana & Danny Mitchell, Johnson City and Donna & Jeff Davis, Jonesborough; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter & Bonnie Shipley, Greeneville; sister, Montie Hayes, Greeneville; sister-in-law, Imogene Shipley, Greeneville; two grandchildren, Brandon Shipley (Tracey) and Ashley Shipley; two great-grandchildren, Ivan Shipley and River Shipley; and several nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Richard McDavid for many years of loving care and the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Healthcare Staff.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Roach officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 10:45 am Friday, January 4, 2019 at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Shipley, Dwight Mitchell, Tim Broyles, Roger Dickerson, Terry Ricker, Dennis Ledford, Charles Phillips, Rick Poore, and Rick Mull. Honorary pallbearers will be C.L. White, Sam Callahan and Fay Mitchell.
