Laura Good, 88, went to be with her Savior October 7th, 2018, while under inpatient hospice care at Franklin Woods Hospital in Johnson City following a long battle with congestive heart and renal failure. Born April 20,1930, in Bakersville, NC, she lived most of her life in Johnson City but currently resided in Jonesborough, TN. Laura was the daughter of the late James Nathan McKinney and Vergie M. Masters McKinney and widow of the Honorable Robert J. “Bob” Good. Laura was a 1949 graduate of Bowman High School in Bakersville, and later attended adult night classes and computer application courses at East Tennessee State University. Faithfully married to Bob Good over 53 years, she was his loyal supporter and assisted his many accomplishments as they raised their 3 children. Laura retired from the Johnson City Medical Center in 1995 after nearly 20 years of service. Afterwards she worked and retired from Associates International at age 70. As a charter member of Clark Street Baptist Church, she served for many years. She also supported numerous Christian missions, children’s ministries, veterans’ groups, environmental organizations and equal rights. Along with her husband, in the 1960’s and 70’s Laura served 10 years as Chapter Chairman for the Washington County March of Dimes. Following his death in 2004, as a political advocate, Laura completed her husband’s term on the Washington County Commission. Laura, a voracious reader, cherished the Word of God and most forms of literature as well as current news, sports and funny papers. Computer savvy Laura was a story teller and frequently shared inspirations and memories with family and friends on Facebook. She had a green thumb and loved nature and animals. Accomplished in sewing, she made or altered clothes for her family and others. She is forever “Mee Maw” to her beloved grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who always brought smiles to her face. In addition to her husband and parents, Laura was preceded in death by her brother, Billie Joe McKinney and her infant daughter Karen Diane Good. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Jean White and husband Chet, Kathryn Denise Street and husband Mike, and son Robert Sean
Good; six grandchildren, Jason Reynolds, Laura McInturff, Natalie Parker, Nicole Lutz, Nathan Reynolds and Spencer Street; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert McKinney and wife Beverly, Bruce McKinney and wife Maggie; two sisters, Linda Shervette and husband Robert, Judy Greenawalt and husband Bruce; many beloved nieces and nephews. Laura donated her body to Quillen College of Medicine. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1 in the chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, 260 Headtown Road, Jonesborough, TN.
