Carolyn Clark Saylor passed away on the evening of September 19, 2018, surrounded by her family.

The daughter of the late Oren and Mary Clark, she grew up in Limestone.

In 1969, she married Charles W. “Bill” Saylor and they had a wonderful life filled with love, laughter and family. Carolyn raised and is survived by two extraordinary daughters, Susan Saylor and Alice Saylor-Yarber, and one treasured son-in-law, Bobby Yarber. Her granddaughter, Virginia Arabella Berry, was definitely “Mimmie’s Buddy” and oh the adventures they had in the past 17 years. Carolyn was extremely proud of all of them.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Charlotte Saylor, Jonesborough.

While Carolyn didn’t have any brothers or sisters, she grew up among a close-knit group of cousins. Always one to keep her friends close, she made sure some of them married into the family, including her best friend since first grade, Sharon Rowe Lewis. In addition to her husband, children and granddaughter, she is survived by the following: two aunts, Iris Wyatt, Telford, and Mildred Clark, Johnson City; David Lewis (Sharon), Billy Lewis (Gail), Kenneth Clark (Linda), all of Limestone; Larry McElyea (Melanie), Morristown; Donna Cleveland (Perry), Greeneville; David Houston (Ramona) and Mark Wyatt (Michele), Gray; Thomas Houston, Telford; Cathy Etter (Matt), Terry Clark (Rosemary) and Michele Ward (Eric), Knoxville; Randy Lewis (Sherry), Afton; and Sandra Riggins, Jimmy Bishop and Johnny Bishop, Charlottesville, Va.; and her special friend, Patsy Morelock, Telford.

Carolyn was a 1965 graduate of Washington College Academy, a 1969 graduate of East Tennessee State University and a 1996 graduate of Tusculum College. She returned to WCA to teach in the 1980s. She finished out her years of teaching at Jonesborough Middle School, retiring in 2007. She enjoyed teaching almost as much as she enjoyed retirement and always enjoyed seeing former students. She loved to hear how she impacted their lives. Carolyn loved being outdoors, whether mowing her yard, working in her flowers or swimming in her pool. Her pets, Dolly and Miss Kitty, were always following her around and will miss her terribly. As of late, she tried her hand at oil painting and had her first art show. Carolyn also enjoyed singing with the Golden Heirs.

Visitation for the family of Carolyn Saylor will be Saturday, September 22, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. with a Celebration of Life in the chapel following visitation. Allen Huff, the Saylor’s pastor at Jonesborough Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., Fairview Cemetery, Jonesborough. Pallbearers will be David Lewis, Billy Lewis, David Houston, Tommy Houston, Warren Lewis and David Babb.
