Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Williams, 83, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 17, 2018.
Betty was born and raised in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Moving to Johnson City in 1966, she attended ETSU, earning a B.A. and M.A. degree. Upon graduation, she served as an Instructor in the English Department until her retirement in 1988.
Betty was known for her kindness to animals and provided homes to many strays who crossed her path. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Dallas Jennings (nee Gose), three half-brothers, and her husband, Edward M. Williams, Jr.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. and Wendy W. Williams (nee Warden); two grandsons, Samuel E. and John Davis Williams; nephew Dr. James Richard Cabbage (Judy) and their daughter Mary Anne; niece Floy Mae Roser (nee Jennings) and her son Jonathan, and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is grateful for the kind support received from Mountain States Hospice and Visiting Angels, who helped make it possible for Betty to rest peacefully at home.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Jonesborough, TN, with Dr. Cabbage officiating.
