Mrs. Myrtle “Nannie” Bennett, age 106, Johnson City, passed away Saturday January 6, 2018 at Lakebridge Health Care Center, Johnson City.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Washington County and daughter of the late Alvin and Sarah Green. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Clardy and Walter Bennett; grandson, Michael Shawn Percell two sisters, Mary Conatser and Lena Poore and four brothers, Harry Green, Hardin Green, Hubert Green and Howard Green.
She was a member of Union Christian Church.
Mrs. Bennett loved her roses, gardening and also enjoyed sharing her vegetables with family and friends. She was a loving Mother and Nannie.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou Percell (Jerry), Jonesborough; two granddaughters, Sherry Garst (Eddie) and Angela Nease (Jimmy); all of Jonesborough; great-grandson, Dale Garst (Deanna); and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor John H. Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Nease, Eddie Garst, Dale Garst, Roger Gillin, Chad Harris, and Leroy Jent. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Rutherford and Martin Garst.

Donna Poore Shook
I was saddened to hear of my great aunt Myrtle’s passing. My
heart goes out to her loved ones and all are in my thoughts
and prayers. I used to love spending time with great aunt
Myrtle when I was younger. She was very spirited...and very
loving toward me. She most definitely would speak her mind. I
love this about her. She loved growing and tending to roses.
But, she also loved many other varieties of flowers, too. She
loved gardening and caring for flowers in general. Lena and
Mary were the same way. All three sisters loved doing this. All
of their houses were always so beautiful with different kinds of
flowers growing outside their houses during spring and
summer. Their brother, Harry, was always having my father
work on his tractor, so he could tend the fields. Myrtle was my
father, Jarvis Poore’s aunt. Jarvis was Lena Poore’s son, and
Myrtle’s nephew. Lena was married to his father, Jim Poore.
Jarvis was not Lena’s biological son. But, Lena raised him
since he was a baby. He only knew Lena as a mother, and I
(as well as my brother, Jimmy Poore) only knew Lena as a
grandmother, and consider this family as my own. My father
passed away on January 29, 2016. He loved his mom and
aunts very much. I am happy knowing they are all together in
heaven. I will see all of them again one day.

Such a dear lady. Have known her most of my
life and grew up with her daughter, Lou. They
lived just across the fence. When I lost my
mother at age 14, Myrtle was always willing to
help me and my Dad if we needed her. She was
such a hard worker...in the garden, doing farm
work, keeping house and loving her roses. She
will be truly missed. Love you Myrtle.
Lou, you and all the family are in my and
Linda's prayers. We know it is such a great
loss.
