Mr. Gordon E. Rice, age 70, Piney Flats, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Holston Valley Hospital.
Mr. Rice was born in Washington County and son of the late Charlie & Evelyn Poore Rice. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kristy.
He retired from the Washington County Highway Department. He loved farming and the outdoors and was a loyal friend.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Rice; a brother, Raymond Rice; and 1st cousin, Stella Calhoun.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Friday, October 21, 2016 at Dillow-Taylor funeral Home with Pastor Estel Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 10:00 am Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Seviers Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Hall, Kevin Vencill, Dwight King, Steve King, Daniel Tittle, Mark Foster, Mark McKamey, Edward Tester.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Josh Tester, Glen Linkous, Jean Bowers, Homer Stout, Bob Boling, John King, Jerry Dempsey, Clinton Hall, Seth Greene, Toby Crane, Carl Cloyd, Charlie Jones. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gordon was a very special man and will be missed by all. He was a loving and caring man. Everyone liked and respected him. I always remember him at the flea market walking around with his walking stick. Picking up treasure for him and Kevin to use on the farm. We will never forget you. You will forever be in our hearts.

GORDON WAS ONE OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS !WE BECAME VERY CLOSE WHEN HE WAS BATTLING CANCER ETC!HE WAS A GREAT PERSON A TRUE FRIEND AND MY DAUGHTER BELLE THOUGHT THE WORLD OF HER MOO MOO MAN AS SHE CALLED HIM !! SO SAD HE WAS AT AUCTION FRIDAY STAYED ALL NITE AND THEN PASSED AWAY SAT !! HE LOVED TO TRADE ESPECIALLY OLD GUNS ETC N BUT BESIDES FRIENDS ETC HE HAD A TRUE LOVE FOR OLD FASHION FOOD WE ALWAYS TOOK HIM BIG PLATE ON HOLIDAYS ETC MAMAWS TOMATER PUDDIN ONE HIS FAVES !!
