Dear Kathleen, I suspect that my name is one that is unknown to you, however nearly 50 years ago my life and that of Bob's ran rather parallel for nearly a decade. I first met Bob at Pitt's freshman orientation in the Fall of 1968. His gentle and friendly demeanor made him quite approachable. Upon speaking with him I was pleased to discover that like my own aspirations, he planned on "premed" as his undergraduate goal. In fact we went together to an orientation party where we met the "Dean of Students". I do not remember the dean's name , but I do remember him asking what our intended area of study was to be. When we replied Premed, he frowned and said "you and 70% of the freshman class...good luck with that" and walked away. Bob and I looked at each other and agreed that was not an encouraging thing for a dean to say to incoming freshmen. Since we were both Biology and Chemistry majors, Bob and I frequently encountered each other in advance science classes. Although we did not "hang out together", anytime I ran into him, he was always ready to greet me with a kind smile and friendly banter. I was quite pleased to see him at the Pitt's Medical school orientation in the Fall of 1972. It seemed that we had defied the odds that the dean had spoke of 4 years ago. I usually sat beside Bob during the endless lectures in the first 2 years of medical school. Med school however, was different than undergraduate study. During undergraduate years, lectures were used to clarify textbook assignments. For the most part, medical school did not use textbooks. This made note taking a very high priority. Unfortunately, listening and being a stenographer was not part of my skill set. Bob was always very gracious in sharing his notes with me. I am not sure how I would have survived those first 2 years without his assistance. Once we got to the clinical years, I would run into him much more irregularly. When we did meet he remained quite engaging. I specifically remember him telling me stories about his summers working on repairing railroads. At the end of our medical school training, we had to pick our area for residency training. I do not know if it was coincidence or not, but we both picked OB-GYN. Bob matched to the Magee Women's Hospital, but I did not. I ended up at a less prestigious program at Western Penna. Hospital, also in Pittsburgh. My sister worked for a time as an R.N. at Magee. She had run into Bob, on several occasions and spoke highly of his demeanor and skill set . As a graduate of Pitt, I receive a publication of Pitt related news. That is how I accidently and belatedly learned of Bob's passing. I found this news very distressing on many levels, but especially personally. We at one time shared similar dreams, aspirations, experiences, and friendship. Somehow despite unfavorable odds, we both made them come to fruition. I have read the many tributes his patient's have written on his eulogy page. I was not the least surprised to find them filled with recounts of the many ways he treated his patients not only with great skill but with much caring, kindness, and respect. I guess I just wanted you to know that someone, after nearly 50 years, remembered him as a kind, gentle, and talented man. To this day, I hold him in the highest regard. You have my deepest sympathy and best wishes for strength, during this most dark and difficult time. Sincerely, Bill Dundore 180 Daugherty Road Grove City, Pa 16127

Dear Kathy and family, It was quite by accident that I just saw Bob's obituary. My deepest sympathy to you and your family at this most difficult time of loss and sorrow. In reading the other condolences, Bob certainly made a difference in the many lives he touched throughout his career and never changed from the kind, gentle, and caring personality he showed patients as a resident when we worked together. God bless all of you.

Dear Mrs. Dunworth & family, We just wanted to offer our sympathy in the passing of Dr. Dunworth. We just heard about the news today. I am sure that you have been told this many times , but your husband was a wonderful caring Doctor. He was my Dr. In 1982. He delivered our son Seth by c- section. I had developed complications due to toxemia and was very sick. I remember he offered comforting words to me when I feared that I might not live. He was a blessing to my husband & me. Thank you for the sacrifices that you and your family gave so that Dr. Dunworth could be the tremendous Doctor that He was. I am thankful to have been given such great care. My son and I could have died if Dr. Dunworth had not been there to help us. My husband is a Baptist Minister in Reidsville,N.C. and our son is a Baptist minster also, living in Front Royal Va. We will be praying for your family. Sincerely, Lisa & Mickey Alcorn

Without Dr. Dunworth I would not have had my daughter in 1984. I had artificial insemination in order to conceive her. She is my life,my backbone and without her my life would be empty. For his help I am forever grateful. She has grown into a loving and intelligent young woman with a loving husband that is police officer and a daughter that is the sunshine of my life. Dr Dunworth was a wonderful gift from God to many people

Much sorrow for your loss! The good Doctor must have done much good during his career. I do not know that I knew him personally but wish I had since I am from the nearby city of Sharon, PA and had several friends from Greenville. I have long and fond memories of the little town and since I had a sister in a nursing home there I used to visit it on occasion until a few years ago. Again, my condolences and hope that your family are all well. Sincerely, Dennis O'Hare, Gray, TN

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of Dr.Dunworth, our beloved physician and one of the best physicains I was very fortunate to have in my life(I was his patient in the early 90's). So sad to hear this news. Dr. Dunworth was a brilliant man. My mother was 88 years old yesterday and he diagnosed her with Sjogrens Syndrome many years ago after numerous doctors had no clue what was going on with her. It has made a huge difference to be able to understand many of her complaints with various symptoms of the disease. We will be eternally grateful to him for his insight. My thoughts and prayers are with this family. Please know that so many people in Eden, NC loved him!

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Dunworth, I, too, am a former patient. Dr. Dunworth was one of the most caring physicians I have known. There are some great physicians out there, but he was the exception! He made phone calls after hours to check on my progress after surgery, and even made a special trip to meet my husband and me at his office instead of having us go to the emergency room. Dr. and Mrs. Dunworth were always a pleasure to see at his office working side by side. It's because of Dr. Dunworth that I am still able to run. I am so grateful for all that he did for me. I wish my heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family. Thank you, Dr. and Mrs. Dunworth.

Dear family of Dr. Dunworth, I was privileged to be a patient of Dr. Dunworth from 1990 until he left practice in Erwin. He compassionately held my hand through a tubal pregnancy and later miscarriage. He saved my life when I had two blood clots during my next pregnancy. And he rejoiced with me as I held my precious newborn. Dr. Dunworth was by my side during some of the saddest and happiest times of my life. I valued his skill, knowledge and compassionate care and knew I could trust him with my life. I was blessed to know him. He was truly a remarkable person and I will never forget him and what he did for me. You have my sincere condolences.

He guided me through fertility issues, a hysterectomy, and shared in our joy when we were finally able to adopt. The world has lost a marvelous clinician and a sincerely empathetic and caring person. Praying that God will give you and your family peace and comfort now and in the coming days ahead.

My heart goes out to the family of this sweet man. The first time I saw him as a patient I had not been to a gyn doctor in over 18 yrs. He soon came to realize I wasn't happy about being there. When he came into the room he was wearing red sparkly shoes (he had delivered a baby earlier he said and wore those shoes when delivering babies). He asked if I wanted him to sing, whistle, or just be quiet. I told him do whatever he felt....it was so quiet for just a minute. I said you have to sing or do something...I don't like the quiet, so he whistled! He was determined to make me comfortable in my visit and I will never ever forget you, his wife and nurse or him for his kindness. Praying God's comfort for all of you.

Dr. Dunworth was an excellent doctor. He performed major surgery on me in 1988 - when he was in Eden. He was such a good doctor -- always kind and patient with everyone. So sad when he left our area. The family may want to know that I have visited their former home in Eden, recently -- and it is just as beautiful as they left it.
