Helen Ruth Almond Hart

Helen Ruth Almond Hart, Age 92, passed peacefully on June 18, 2016 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, TN. She lives on in spirit with relatives and friends. Helen was born in 1924 in Concord, NC to Walter Franklin and Myrtle Lee Little Almond. She graduated from Concord High School in 1941 then moved to Oak Ridge, TN to be employed by Tennessee Eastman in uranium enrichment at Y12. Helen married Abe F. Hart, Jr in Knoxville, TN on December 22, 1945. They resided the longest in Nashville, TN. She went back into the workforce with Bellsouth in Nashville, when her younger son was in high school, and retired in 1989. She joined Abe in retirement on the Hart Farm in Carter County, his family home in Upper East Tennessee. Her favorite “job” always was being a wife and mother. Helen attended First United Methodist Church-Elizabethton since 1990, but she had been a long-time member of the McDonough Fellowship Class at Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church in Nashville. Helen enjoyed shopping, UT sports plus tent camping in the Smokies, and many of Tennessee's State Parks with family and friends because of the involvement of Abe and the boys (both Eagle Scouts) with Boy Scout Troop 260 in Nashville. Later in life, she was a member of the East Tennessee State University's Alliance for Continued Learning. Helen was preceded in death by Abe (her husband of almost 64 years), her parents (Concord, NC), and her sisters Jean Shinn (Concord, NC) and Francis Allison (Concord, NC). Helen is survived by her sons, David (Hart Farm) and Steven (Mt. Juliet, TN); Steven's wife Cindy, and grand-daughter Madison; her sister Shirley Black (Concord, NC); numerous nieces, and nephews; many dear friends, both two and four legged; and a extraordinary niece/friend Lisa Hart Waxhaw, NC. The family would like to thank all that cared for Helen in her last month at Mountain States Med Center, Johnson City, TN; Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, TN; and Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Jonesborough, TN. Her care was excellent, and the people too numerous to name. Helen donated her body to Quillen College of Medicine-ETSU. There are no services planned at this time. The family asks that donations be made to: First United Methodist Church"Elizabethton, 325 East E Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 for the Building Fund; or Empower Me Day Camp, P.O. Box 672, Lebanon, TN 37088.
